Are you guys like me when you go to the auto parts store you have a list of what parts are from what year and possibly make?

My Jeep is a 1966 but has many body parts from a 1971. The windshield and grille are 1971.

The gas tank isn't under the drivers seat anymore, I have a tank from a 1978 and fills from the rear.

My front axle is a Dana 30 but it has open knuckles, I have no idea on what year it is.

The dash is custom and my heater isn't a Jeep model but an aftermarket one from Heater Craft. This isn't a complaint, I rather like my setup. All my switches are toggle, no pull switches for the lights or anything.

I don't have the standard emergency brake but an electrical line lock. Again, not a complaint.

The steering is....the steering works great. Saginaw box, 1966 steering column, I guess.

I like it like this. The only problem I get is when I am asked the year and a Jeep guy looks at it, they question me. "Are you sure it is a '66?" It is according to the title. :)

Most of the folks at my FLAPS learned a long time ago to not ask. Every once in a while we get a newbe and he learns real quick to shutup, listen, pass the parts book if possible :)

The only thing left stock on my 51 is - the tcase - even the body is an MB not a CJ.

    Amen!

Fiberglass tub and fenders. '71 frame, '82 and up seats and dash and heater, unknown vintage T86 or T90 I've never confirmed, unknown vintage 225, open knuckle Dana 30 and steering from a '76 CJ-5 and it had a 2 piece (pre 1970) rear axle until I put another '71 rear axle in it, oh and the HEI is from an odd-fire 231.

    Here here!
43 MB engine, 47 frame, body, trans, transfer case (mostly, some new parts)
    1970 CJ Axles
    49 grille
    78 CJ7 Saginaw box
    pertronix

Whenever I run to FLAPS :)roll:) He asks what year it is. I say 1947. They don't think that it's made anymore. If I know the parts match I tell them up to a 1970 CJ will do fine.

I guess I'm the odd man out ... both the truck and the CJ-6 are box stock so far. Plenty of optional rust though.

New bed for the J-10 is from an '84 - not in place yet though.

The parts store guys like me, I always have something unique for them to look up. Better than the standard cap, rotor, and plugs guy.

My Jeep still has the 66 frame, axles, trans, TC, and engine. Add-ons include but are not limited to fiberglass body, late model windshield, 70 Chevy column, 70s Wagoneer PS box, Wrangler clutch master, Toyota slave, late 70s Jeep Brake master cylinder, aftermarket rear tank, 231 OF HEI, & PS pump, heater from a minibus, and whatever else I had at the time that worked.

I've been having issues mostly with the engine I'm rebuilding... When they ask what vehicle it's for I have to tell them it's for 1980 buick regal. There's only one guy in my FLAPS that has a clue that buick parts work in jeeps.

I think most of us have that same problem when it comes to getting parts.

My 64 CJ5 has an early 70's 351 Windsor V8 under the hood. It has a hydraulic clutch from a 57 Ford truck. No one has a clue as to where the Master Cylinder is from, because the fitting point towards the engine. And my gas tank has also been moved to the rear.

53 M38a1 frame and tub and hood, replacment fenders, Buick 231 engine (I just tell them 1985 3.8 Regal and it usually gets it), master cylinder from a GMC, 80's rear gas tank, I guess the axle's are stock, I dunno.....lots of little parts off various things.

You are not alone. 64' M38a1 with a 80' OMC V-6 out of a Bayliner. SM465 out of a 78 Chevy pickup. Master cylinder out a 84' S-10 Blazer. Radiator out of a 78' Chevy Monza, and a Dana 30 out of a 73' CJ5. Oh and the steering column is out a a 79 Firebird. So there. :p
