I started tearing my 5 down yesterday for an engine swap. I see that there is a filler of some sort between the fenders and the grille, and possibly between the fenders and the body tub. What is this filler? Is it only there for rust prevention or does it serve some other purpose? :?

It's called body caulk (I think) it helps w/ rattles and metal to metal rubbing. I got a roll from a auto paint shop, but I think you can get it at Napa as well. I also used it between my rocker guards and body, and on my tranny cover to tub etc....
