I just got the new seal (windshield frame to body) and as usual, no instructions. The old one was Bubba-teched with caulk, plumber's putty, and various sealants. After getting the old one off, there was some black tarry strips stuck to the frame - should they be there? Should I scrape this off and put the seal to clean metal? Are most of these seals leakers? Every one I have looked at were Bubba-ed up.

The windshield frame to body gasket was one of the first things I replaced on my CJ5 when I first got it. I think I remember this new gasket being pretty spendy. And it was actually thinner than the stock gasket and It did not cure my problem. I think it made more problems.. the frame would lean back further than normal.. making my soft top not as tight.

Well, if you leave your frame up/on most of the time.. you could try some butyl window sealant. It is not as messy and cleans up. Roll it on the body, and put up the frame.. and it'll squash it down and seal. I havent tried this.. but I think I will.
