Can I blow this stud ...

    Sorry for the confusion and I appreciate your interest and help.

    The process of successfully fusing a nut to the stud was a success!!! Getting the stud out was not. I believe the technique works ... just not for me in this case. Thanks to you and others, I know how to do it now and will surely use the technique some other time.

    I kinda have to, respectfully, say that this ain't my first rodeo .. I figured out the heat thing, I knew the back and forth thing, I knew the not too cold thing, I knew the not-red-hot thing.

    Very well worded!

    I slid the motor-tranny-tcase assy forward ~5", drilled stud dead-center, tapped, done. Waiting a few daze for new gasket.

    No wonder the weld-nut-to-stud thing didn't work: The stud seems to have fuzed completely to the block ... never found any remnants of old stud threads ... all chips from drilling close to 5/16" and from tapping were just granules/dust 8) :beer:
