I installed my Solex. It is running a little lean, and I see it comes with an economy jetting installed. I would be looking for a 140 main jet and a 160 air correction jet. Does anyone know where to get these from? It also shows a 50 pump jet listed for the regular setting. A phone number would be great. Thanks!

What makes you think you are lean?

Hesitation under acceleration, surge at low speed and idle screw at 2 1/4 turns. Just a little lazy.

I would check the plugs for color.

I have found that it is best to get the eng good and warmed up before adjusting the solex. I did Wimpy (Terminated) this way also. You dont live in Denver or anything do you?

What Billy said. The solex is a cold-blooded beast to be sure, so don't even bother trying to adjust it until the engine is good and warm. When cold, even with the choke mostly closed I find myself having to use LOTS of skinny pedal to get out of a stop sign until things warm up. I really try to warm up the engine before driving my Jeep but that isn't always possible...

also check your timing. You should be at 5* BTDC........no more , no less.
The f head will run fairly well outta time, I think it gets a bad Rep cause people time it by "ear" and it isnt developing its full 72 HP.:)

Its up to temp, still a little lazy. This motor has a header and dual exhaust. That also leans up the mix. As I said, the carb is set up for the economy settings i.e. lean. I need to step up to the regular settings. I am in the u.p. of Michigan, and always run in cold weather. The richer mixture will be needed.

    Ah so! :)

When you get a chance, fill in your profile info under the "User CP" at the top of the page. Stuff like location can really help out a lot when diagnosing problems like this. Also, we may just have another member in your backyard!

I found the documentation that came with my Solex, there is no contact information on the brochure. You might trying to contact a dealer but on the exploded view it only lists 1 part number for the main jet and the air correction jet.

You have a header and dual exhaust on an FHead? or did I miss something? You may have too much exhaust if it is an FHead.:hurrican::coffee:

Well, this combo ran pretty good with a worn out Carter, so I think it should run even better with a Solex assuming I can get the right jets. The header is a new addition, but the duals have been on for over 2 years with no problems. Pipe diamater and muffler selection was done carefully to ensure velocity would not be comprimised. I am well aware of the limitations of an F. Back to my original post. I need a contact for jets for a Solex.
