the guy that did the work on this jeep kinda screwed the 4-wheel drive shifter.i shoved it up and could only get one gear...then i did it again and the screws came out of carpet and now i got all gears.

so what's the pattern? from top to bottom...4L/N/4H/2H? just threw that out there..it's a 4spd with a 350 in front of it.

next question...what fender exit headers should i use on this 350?...i'm gonna run a 18 inch glasspack leg pipe/side pipe style on it..

also i want to yank this 2b carb off this, and put a decent 4brl and carb on it any suggestions for a late 60's/early 70 350?

    What year Jeep??

    What transfer case???

If this is a stock T case from a 72-75 then all the way towards the back of Jeep is 4 low. Above that is 2High. All the way forward is 4high.

But, if you have a 350 swapped in, it could be anything.

    Pictures might help us out.

Well, this is the intermediate section which is 72-75. But, my guess would be you have a Dana 300, but without seeing pics of it, I can't tell.

Get someone to look at the front axles as you slowly pull forward. If it's in 4 high or low the axles should turn. If not, they shouldn't. Then you should be able to tell when you are in Four low, or Four high by the gearing.

    We like pics:):)

After looking it does say that you can post 76-86 in here as well. My bad, always wondered why people were asking questions about later model JeepsR)

That is definately a tough one if it's got a 350 in it. Could mean they also swapped the tranny and tcase when they swapped the motor. Could be a 300, could be a 205, or something completely different. I would definately say that if by ripping the screws out of the carpet that was holding the shifter boot or whatever they went to, then there's a good chance that the tcase has been swapped from what was stock.

Post up a picture of the shift levers from the driver's seat. If it's stock looking, it'll be a D300. I think the D300 is like the D20, 4H-2H-N-4L front to back.

Which 4 speed? Two were used, the SR-4 and the T-176.

i forgot to add. about the carb.
 i have a holley 2barrel on my 5.0, i like it alot. i think it is just a regular one, not exactly sure if it is the avenger model or not... it runs great, but at extreme angles, it is kind of a pain.
 my friend has a chevy engine in his rig, he had some electric choke model holley, some model that was great for streets (someone dropped a hot rod engine in his rig) but when he got on the hills and the slightest angles, it would stall out. so he picked up the edelbrock 4 barrel off-road carb. he loves it. with a simple adjustment he can go from gas saver mode/normal power or switch to max power/romp the gas and haul some a__. well you know what i'm getting at. this carb handles angles great, side to side, incline, decline. he has been really happy with it. he and i would reccomend that, in fact, i may switch over to that one down the road. check it out here http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=EDL-1825&N=700+115&autoview=sku

    good luck.

that's what i was looking at.

i can build some motors(that little 306 tags 11.90's at 113mph),just not very savvy with offroad stuff.

that's cool, i've dabbled with pretty much every component of rigs, torn everything of everything down, but barely touched inner motors... something that i will be taking on eventually. good knowledge to have to build up a nice motor for a trail rig.
things i feel are important with regards to that are capability of running at angles, and having lots of low end torque.

other than that...when in doubt, power out! always nice to have that power.

looks like you have a pretty cool rig. one hell of a project ahead of you. have fun with it.

yeah it's minor stuff but it adds up quick...i might cross the dark valley once more and build this 350 ...then again i'm tempted to stick my 306 in it...efi with 400tq from 2800-4850...but i don't think 7000rpm would sit will on the poor jeep..

what motor you planning on building?
