225 V6 questions

Hi would like som help with my V6 225 engine

The cylinderheads and intake manifold are off and when I turn the crank back and forth and look at the camshaft it moves axial about 0.1" (2-3mm). is that normal for this type of engine?

guess it isen't good then, what might be the problem? is it a common failure and how do i fix it

 

The cam may be worn excessively or more than likely the timing chains are worn out and the cam thrust button is missing.
