Trying to decide here. Keep going back and forth on using YJ springs or new lift kit (normal springs) for the CJ

If I were to convert over to the YJ springs, do you need to change the front and rear shackle mounts on the frame? Can you just make a shackle that has an offset in it to make up the difference in widths?

If so, would it be better to have both sides of the shackels bent with an offset to center the weight on the springs, or would it really matter if one side was straight and the other side took up all the offset?

You can buy the shackles like that ready made for the later Cj to YJ swap. I think I would just spend the extra couple bux and couple hours to swap out the mount. Also, with the length difference in the springs the shackle hangers end up being moved.

As I recall, the shackle hangers were ~$10 each. Mine were riveted and welded. I think many of them are only riveted?

Jp did a story on this back around 2000, 2001. it was on a flat fender but it had all of the part numbers and everything. Maybe Dummy can answer this.

I looked at a quadratech catalogue today and saw that the hangers were only $14 for each one. The spring mounts for the frame might have been a little more but yea, I know those have to be swapped out because of the spring lengths.

For some reason I thought they were more for the mounts. but thats $60 right there for all 4:p

If anyone has a source for the mounts cheaper post them up please8)

Those are the mounts i used for my YJ springs. Straight from the Quadratec catalog. They worked fine. Then of course i decided to use Waggie axles so i had to cut them off :(

I bought all of my suspension parts from a guy that is no longer in business. http://www.jeepdoc.com/catalog/zproducts.asp?id=307 is about the closest I saw to what I paid. So I guess closer to ~$15 each. Money well spent I thought.

I had to move my front shackle mounts forward quite a bit. I moved mine as far forward on the frame as they would go. Then I used a YJ boomerang shackle to get the shackle far enough forward. My springs didn't mount like the tech pages said they would.

JeepTherapy, I think I finally figured out what happened on that. I used Rubicon Express CJ to YJ conversion springs on the front not YJ springs. So they are CJ length but YJ Width. The Tech Article mentions that but it probalby needs to be edited to make that a more noticable fact.

I used the mounts that a CJ-7 uses for their rear springs (shackle mount and spring mount). They are the correct width, compact, and easy to work with. Used those parts on the front and rear axles.

Hmmmmm, did you catch the thread on the spring lengths listed in the tech section? At the same time I was doing the YJ spring conversion I pointed out an error in the spring lengths listed there. I wonder if it is all part of the same issue? I don't really know much about the RE conversion kit. But that makes sense.

I almost think it important to point out the difference in eye to eye and following the arch of the spring lengths. I would think that it is very different from manufacturer to manufacturer and lift height of the springs?
