    The kicker here is (I believe) that if you leave lights on and run bat completely dead (with alt sys) you will not start it by pushing. If you let it sit and let battery recover somewhat, you will have enough juice to trigger alt/reg ckt to start charging. Liken to the fact that some vehicles will continue to run when you disconnect a battery cable and others will die immediatly.
