So, I started on my hunting adventure yesterday morning in my 66' CJ-5 and drove for about 75 miles. I got off the highway and started back into the hills when I noticed a slight tick coming form under the vehicle. Then I noticed that the transmission wasn't slipping out of 2nd gear like it usually does. I stopped and tried to shift into 1st, 3rd, reverse... I could not do it. For the time being I could force it into 2nd gear even though it put alot of pressure on the shifter when i resleased the clutch. I started on my track home and then if popped out of 2nd and I could no longer put it into gear. The clutch seems to be working fine. I am going to bring it to a transmission shop. Before I get ripped off I wanted to ask you guys what you think the problem could be and how hard it would be to fix?

Like Walt said, more info would be helpful.

There are a few things that could cause this. Linkage issue, cracked synchronizer hub, cracked blocking ring (also called a synchro ring, you know, brass ring), a severely worn synchro sleeve, thrust clearances way out of specification, worn dog teeth on second gear, severely worn second gear bushing, etc. Nickmil

Sounds like the same thing my T90 did when I ran it dry . Open it up and beat on it with a claw hammer , thats what I did to mine and its still working 2 years later R)
Seriously if its a T90 pop the top on it , they are very simple trannys . A little looking and moving parts around can tell you alot about them.
