looking for accelerator cable solution

on my 64 cj project, I have a fiberglass tube and hanging pedals. The accelerator is such, that it is designed to PULL a cable. the linkages on the carb are looking for a rod from the push type pedal. i can figure something out, pick up a cable localy and fab up a moounting bracket for the carb connection.

Just wondering what others have done

 

I wish I had some experience to share with you, Never had to deal with that one before, It is interesting from an engineering perspective however. I will no doubt be up half the night pondering that one (-: .
Any reason an older push pedal and linkage could not be adapted?

 

Should be doable if you can incorporate cable. I would think if you ran a cable from the accelerator to a pulley placed behind the pivot point of the throttle arm, and then attached it to pull the arm backwards, it would be the same as a push from a rod.
I sure hope I explained this so it could be understood.

 

On my F134, pushing on the peddle causes a pull on the throttle linkage.
Do you have the hand throttle cable installed on yours? You could possibly eliminate the hand cable and substitute the foot cable for that one. ??

 

could not be done as with the rebuild, used a fiberglass tub that had the pedals hanging. hole for the accel cable is in the firewall and pedal is set to pull, not push and the alignment of what would push to where it needed to push just wasn't going to happen without a double back cable or something.

this was what I have been pondering and was about to do untill I figured a $10 dollar expierament was necessary, bought an accelerator cable in the longest length available from a local NAPA - glad the guy is a friend who has worked with me on parts for this project as he spent some time locating one that might work.

It had the end to fit the pedal and a flat tip with a hole in it at the other end.

snapped the cable through the fire wall and into the pedal, then looked for a second, other end snapped in neatly over the linkage arm end on teh carb, cotter pin holds everything in place. Cable itself is locked in under a spare space in the spark plug wire holder.

works slicker n snot, the return is via the origonal linkages and return spring

Replacement cable for something like an MG or a Pinto linkage might work for you.
