Finally, a question that I know the answer to first hand....

I just bought a pair of "Rugged Ridge" low back seats from cyberjeep.com. (great folks to deal with) The seats were listed as fitting 1976-1986 cj5's.

I have a stock previously unmodified 1975 CJ5. The drivers seat bolted right in using the standard mounting holes. No problem. The passenger seat mounting holes were no where close. I cut 2 pieces of 1/4" x 1" flat bar 16" long and drilled holes that match up with the factory holes in the seats. Then I just welded the factory seat mount to the flat bar. Works perfect.

The only slightly tricky part was fabricating a mount for the latch. Originally, the latch was bolted to the back corner of the passenger seat. since the new seats do not have a provision for this latch, I cut and bent a piece of 12 gauge mild steel that I welded to the seat frame. (see picture)

If you didnt want to weld the bar to the seat frame, you could always use 1/4" x 2" flat bar instead and just bolt right thru the original holes in the frame. I didnt want the seat to sit up the extra 1/4" higher, so I took the welded route.

All in all, the seats worked just fine.

Thanks for the help, I was looking at getting the Rugged ridge high back seats. I like your idea of welding the latch for the passenger seat, how do you like the seats? Ive been sitting on some crapy plastic piece of junk:mad:

Well, actually I have not put any miles on the Jeep yet. The seats seem pretty comfortable sitting still, but I have been working on some other upgrades that are not finished yet.
