OK, I'm told that '71 & '72 front lower spring plate shock mounts are larger than the '55 to '68 one's and that no one makes repo's. It was suggested to me that I simply buy the '55 to '68 repo's and slot the holes to fit the u-bolts. Does this work? has anyone out there done this? and if so was their any problem mounting stock style shocks:? Thank you in advance :)

is your old plate missing/damaged beyond repair ?
you could cut off the broken shock pin and weld same size bolt, maybe a grade 8, in it's place.

I don't think you were told right. The rear spring plate is larger on the 70 and 71 due to the larger housing of the flanged dana 44. The front should be the same for all the early 5's as they used basically the same front axle. The 72 and later used a dana 30 front (different spring plate all together) but used the same rear axle but it was centered instead of offset.

Shock pin was broken off and welded back on by PO. Pin is bent, not real bad, about 3/8" you can still mount the shock to it. Could I heat it and straighten it or should I just leave be:?

heating it would probably weaken it more.
I'd just straighten as best you can and run it.

Krage is the first place I went, they are the one's that informed me of the unique spring plates on some of the '70 & '71's... Thanks to all for the help:) Think I'll just run it as it is and worry about if & when it ever breaks:driving:

    What Mcruff said is correct.

The rear changed, but it's the same as the '72-'75 spring plates. The fronts aren't any different so you shouldn't have any issues finding a good replacement plate here.

Just place a wanted to buy ad in the classifieds. Worked for me, I ended up with two sets. :)
