Thanks for all the feedback, I take it that the vented windscreen is not so common in the US!

I will post more pics this afternoon, some of the 4 sticks and will then see if I can work out what it does and post that.

I am still not sure if I have CJ5 or a CJ6 so I guess the best option is to measure the wheelbase, I am assuming the measurement is from the centre of the rear axle to the centre of the front axle.

Thanks again and this looks like a great forum full of great info, well done!

I'd surmise from the information above it's technically a CJ-5 (VIN) though in reality a CJ-6 (length wise). That's readily apparent to those of us familiar with these.

    The extra length is apparent.

Oh, but if you still want to measure, you are correct; hub center to hub center.

believe me you have a CJ6, despite what the chassis number says. they where built and sold as a CJ6 so that's what it is.
and yes vented windscreens are rare in the US, i wont tell anyone I'm going to throw mine in the bin and fit a non vented one!

timgr, you should see the "factory" conversion to RHD that Willys Australia did on my CJ6.
my 3 yo could do better, it would have been better if they had used a gas axe.

Thought I would share the story of getting her going.

We first checked the oil and yes she had some so the next thing was to hook up a jumper and see if she would crank. Found the key on the floor , hooked up the jump and turned the key, amazingly she cranked over no probs. Next we checked for spark, none. So a quick inspection of the dissy showed that the points were stuck together thru time so I just eased them apart a couple of times, put the cap back on and re-cranked, presto GREAT spark. Fuel was next. I looked at the fuel bowl on the pump and she was empty so I pulled the line from the tank off and tried to suck fuel thru - no go not even fumes so I connected a temp fuel line up to a 5L Jerry, seen in photo and cranked. The fuel bowwl filled in about 3 cranks and we had fuel but no sign of life. Next I poured a cup full of fuel down the carb and cranked.....nothing. Now I poured about half a litre down and still nothing. I pulled the plugs out one at a time and they were all dry so I poored fuel into each plug hole and then refitted the plugs. Now I craned and got the first small splutter of life. I repeated this process a couple of times and slowly I got one cylinder firing then 2, 3 etc untill she roared into life, all six on fire. The smoke was orange, I guess rust from the exhaust. By this time we were pretty excited so we stopped the mothor to check coolant befor we attempted to dirve off. I opened the cap and she was dry so we poored water in just to watch it run straight back out odf where the toip hose met the thermo cover, she had corroded away so out with the 100mile an hour tape and we taped her up, lef the cap off and filled her up. We had no battery so I taped the pos lead so it couldnt short out to earth, jumper her with my son in the drivers seat. She roared to life and I said lets go as I jumped in thru the passengers door window, the door was stuck. My sun dropped the clutch and nothing happened. To not drag it out we needed to fill the clutch master cylinder with fluid, free up the slave cylinder, free the clutch from the pressure plate, release the frozen trans brake and she lept from her muddy grave and drove out to her new life, what ever that holds I dont know. My challenge was to get her drivable so she has had new plugs and leads, thermo cover, oil guage, fuel tank cleaned and connected, hole in fuel line repaired, lights rewired a battery and I can now drive her around the property. She has no brakes cause there is a pin hole in the rear line but apart from that all is great! Not sure what to do with her but the adventure of getting her going was fun.

Re: Help me to identify my Jeep - New Pics

I have attached a couple more pics, one of the grill and one of the 4 gear sticks

You will see three easily and then back against the seat you can see the forth a small vertical stick, and yes it is a PTO, there is a seperate drive that you would connect a drive shat to as well as tunnelling underneath to let the shaft reach the rear, I engeged it and it even works.

A couple of you say "if you look at the grille you can see the gas axe marks." Where??

I had a look at the grill and I can't see where it has been cut!!! The lower grill is rusty but not cut! View attachment 20746

The grill is cut where the radiator is bolted to it, they didn't mean the outside. Definitely a cool story and a cool JEEP. :)
