The above photo shows a little red rectangle. That red rectangle is the sole surviving body plate on this jeep, and it has been sitting in front of my face since I removed the passenger seat.

The problem is that it's painted red. And the red paint is over a label, not a stamped plate.

So any ideas on removing the paint and retaining the information?

I'd start w/ mild solvents. Remove it from the body and soak it in water overnight first. If it wasn't sanded before painting that may be enough. Next try household iso alcohol, saturate a cotton ball and lay it on the surface for a few minutes and see if it softened the paint. Nail polish remover(dilute acetone) next. If no luck by know you'll probably need full strength acetone. Do it next to the sink and rinse the red off more than rubbing it off and hopefully it won't weaken the underlying black paint on the plate. Good luck, you'll need it.:v6:

try taking a rag soaked in brake fluid and placing it over the area for several days. brake fluid will loosen most paints but will not eat most plastics
