Having problem installing P.S. pump with this conversion. Have 66 small block V8 and do not have enough room to install P.S. pump. Mounting bracket goes at the bottom of the enigne block and there is not enough room for pump (Ford steering box). Has anyone done this conversion with a small block? If so what did you modify to install pump? Is there a bracket that makes use of the water pump bolts and supports both the P.S. pump and the alternator?

I know that kit was designed around a v6.
I think your saying a mount on the pass. side?
I doubt there is a stock one because it's on the wrong side.
I would think you will have to fab something.
You could find something with a alt. and air pump on that side and then convert it.

Have you contacted Herm about this? He says in an earlier thread that he's running a small block with this conversion. Maybe he has some insight as to which bracketry may work..

Yes I did. He told me he fabricated a bracket a using the same mounting holes and extending it up. Fooled with it this am and thought that it got up into the alternator. Still too tight. Was wondering what others may have done using this set up on a small block. Doesn't sound like many have done this conversion using a small block (283).

I went through the same dilemma with my 4.3 and Herm's kit. As much as I like the guy, he said something along the lines of "just move the pump up higher". I'll spare the details but I had to buy a bunch of different engine accessory mounting brackets and played with different combintations till I found something that worked. The Ford box just barely fits under the pump now...

I know there are mounting kits available but they're pretty pricey. You could try calling March and Zoops to see what they've got.

I was hoping someone might be familiar with a bracket that moves the alternator to the passenger side and the ps pump up where the alternator was.

Thanks for the info. I believe there is a bracket out there that will use spacers and go on the bolts for the water pump. That bracket will allow me to move the alternator to the passenger side and mount the PS pump where the alternator was or vise versa. Have to start a search at the local bone yard.
