There's a duck in my hen-house again. A CJ5 among the flatfenders. I hope someone can help me ID it, as well as some spare parts that showed up with it. It's an early 5, with the battery box lid welded to the top of the cowl, an F4 engine, and the front spring shackles are at the rear of the springs, a`la M38A1. The VIN is 57548 31400.
A spare tub bears the VIN 57548 106363
A chassis with no body--- must be pre-72 because of the floor pedals, Ross steering, and Dana 18 transfer case. However, it has:
"Strap" type spring shackles (May have been changed)
Eleven inch drum brakes, with individual front brake hoses from the frame to wheel cylinders.
Fuel delivery line runs from tank, across to right-side frame rail, then forward.
Appears as tho the battery tray used to be on the frame in the RF corner of the engine bay, as something has been cut off there (It currently carries a Chev V8)

Any help would be appreciated, and once I determine what I have, most of it will probably appear in the "For Sale" section. Thanx much. BW

from the "where's my VIN" thread

    57548 31400 would be a 1956 CJ5
    57548 106363 would be a 1960 CJ5

$ sink, Thanx Much, that's what i needed to know on those two. I wanted to find the info myself, and read many pages of that thread until my eyes got tired last night, thought it was only discussing 1969-70, and gave up. Guess I should have held out a little longer, huh?

Warloch, I apreciate what you're saying, but it takes a long time for me to even LOOK at a picture, I can only imagine the nightmare that would be trying to POST one. To be honest, I've never tried to post a picture and wouldn't know how to start. Besides, what would a picture do? I can describe any part of it, and answer questions any one may ask. I thought that someone could possibly suggest a range of years by the changes that were made during the "early" CJ5's production. I can see differences between this rolling chassis and the '56, I just kinda wanted to find out, if I could, approximately when these changes were made. I guess it's time for me to learn. I'll see if I can post some pictures. Thanx Much. BW

You might be pleasantly surprised at the stuff these guys will pick out from a picture. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.. :D

You need to download the PDF document itself. I would suggest it's required reading for any new member here.

The PDF has the culmination of what's in that thread and more.

:? Blank page? It's a direct link to the PDF itself, I just double-checked it myself. I gave Zoomer space on this server so he could upload it.

Nothing wrong with the document, must be something on your end. :(

Bruce - where in NE Co are you? Might have someone able to swing by and help with the ID and take pics to post of the questions.

Now THAT would be great! I'm about 12 miles northeast of Greeley, or 25 east of Ft. Collins, however you prefer to look at it. I'm actually not too far from Cheyenne, Wyo. If someone can come by, a call would be appreciated, 970-834-2429. Thanx Much. Bruce W

I knew you guys would help me out, and you did, even tho we had to do it the hard way. I'm still unable to load the pdf, but I just read about 20 more pages of that thread, and I've determined that the bare frame is probably a 1959. Finding the SN stamped on the frame was a help. Now I'd like to find out when they made some of the changes that I noticed between the '56 and the '59. Thanx Guys. BW
