Hey fellas, I tried searching for V6 Conversions on this site, but it keeps telling me that Im under the minimum key word limit (3) even though I used 4 or more words.

Anyway, I ran my engine today for about 5 minutes. When I was done I noticed there was about a quart of oil that had seeped out of the manifold (no exhaust pipe hooked up yet.) I removed the manifold after it cooled , and it looks like it all came out of the 3 and 4 exhaust ports. Mostly out of #4. I know its due for a rebuild, but was thinking about investing into an already rebuilt Buick V6. My coworker is a buick man and has 2 grand nationals.
Would these engines bolt up to my transmission?

Is this engine the same as the dauntless?

How do I identify my transmission?

What would I need to convert my Jeep to a V6 or V8?

How hard would it be/has anyone pulled this off?

Or should I just rebuild the Fhead? If so, does anyone know of any competent Machine shops in Central Florida that could do my engine?

I like the sound of a V6 or V8 for higher road speeds. That about covers my concerns. As always appreciate your help.:hurrican:

The 231 that was the grand national motor is pretty much the same motor with some variations and improvements over time. The v6 will not bolt to your F head bellhousing, it will bolt up to your t90 3 speed when changed to a long input shaft and the Buick bellhousing added with the original adapter. The swap has been done hundreds of times with success. You can use factory v6 frame mounts cut from a donor jeep, Novak and Advance Adapter make newer style. The factory ones will have the proper offset and require pretty much no measuring. The battery mount will need to be replaced and moved. The exhaust manifolds will need to be changed depending on what steering you use, stock or saginaw. The radiator is sorta iffy, some have used it some just replace it with a larger one.

The V6 is a more popular swap today because it fits the engine compartment better than a V8. As many (maybe more) V8 conversions have been done, however. As Mike said, many many, like thousands of these swaps have been completed with fine results.

Read everything you can find on the Novak site - that will priovide much of the background you need. http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/cj5_55-71_swap.htm

Thank you all for the prompt response. Im glad I can count on you all. I think for the money the V6 conversion has the most value vs a rebuild on the Hurricane. On the longer input shaft how do I go about doing or getting that?

And the buick bellhousing will bolt up without modifying it? Im going to try and Identify my transmission to be sure. Its 4 speeds and the reverse is to the top and all the way to the right. Im just so discourraged on this project. It seems to be one thing after the other. Thinking about just getting rid of the damned thing.

It said one of your words was under the three letter limit. There is no limit on the number of words, you can search for one word only, long as it's longer than three letters.

you'll probably spend pretty close to what it costs to rebuild the F4 vs swapping in the V6.
in your case, I would look into keeping the F4, tear it down, inspect, and see what it needs.

you will have to put a hell of strong driveline in to stand up to that grand national motor!86 & 87 grand nationals made almost 300hp and over 350 ft# at around 2500rpm/ stock. id love for someone to put a turbo 6 in a jeep,if so let me know how the project goes as i have 2 turbo buicks as well as 61 willys and would love to do switch as well .
