need more info and pic's are big help. Are you converting from Generator to Alternator? If so, what type alt/reg u using. Volt meter wiring should not be changed as same either system used.

With battery connected and switch off, put test light on wires that went to old regulator and find battery hot wire. Should be biggest wire there and it will go to BAT terminal on back of alt. This should be only wire you need. Can tape up other two and not use. That should do it.

i did this conversion on a cj3b one time.i took the pulley off the generator and put it on the alternator.if i remember correctly i had to space the pulley out a little futher so the blades on the gen.pulley would clear the alt. body.went to a alt. repair shop and got a little bit wider spacer than the original on the alt. to move it farther from the alternators body.that way i was able to use the wider belt.i was amazed that the center hole on both pulleys was the same.

Remember that it is necessary to have same width pully grooves as belt needs to ride against sides of pully, not in bottom of groove as it will slip and cause lots of problems. Alt rep shop should be able to come up with pully to match others on rig. Don,t forget that alternator kicks in at a specified RPM and it needs a fairly small pully. IIRC most Gen pullys were pretty big.

Willy's Works carry's everything you need, including pulleys. The
pulley is a deep grooved one.
