Steering column swap

My 79 CJ 5 steering column has been molested. I have no turn signal stem or switch, key or tumbler. Was thinking of putting in a 1982 Chevy Blazer column in since I have one laying around. It came out of a standard 2 wd. So all the cosmetics will look good. Pretty sure the wiring will work as the connector looks similar. I just don't know where to measure to see if I have the right length. Also I was thinking of just changing the upper part of the column ie the part inside the cab. Since the Blazer column lower half has been extended for a lift.
