"You had me at Hello" guys...R)

I'm not planning on spending the time diagnosing this - I'm gonna yank the alt and bring it over to a local place that rebuilds them (old HS buddy's family business) and see what they can do in the way of an internally regulated version or a 1-wire.

I'm all for running a simpler setup, and it'll give me a spot on the firewally to possibly mount the FI computer when the time comes.

I picked up a standard GM internally regulated alternator for no more then 40 bucks at autozone. You can get em anywhere, just ask for an alternator from a 75 firebird or something. I reccomend autozone because they don't hassle you about warranties. Somehow I fried mine, but since it had a lifetime warranty, I had a new one in no time. Since then its been through hell and back with no problems. All for 40 bucks, its a no brainer. And if it breaks again in 5 years, I'll be going back to exchange it for a new one.

Well, the place I was gonna go is out of business...

But FLAPs had an attentive, non-phone-answering counterman who was willing to go pull a couple boxes.

    Ended up with a 1-wire, 75A for ~$65.

She's sitting at 14.02V at the battery at idle with no extra electrical loads now...and my firewall looks much cleaner.

The old one is an externally regulated Delco as noted above. If you google any internally regulated swaps you can usually find pics of both showing how to ID. The Oldsmobile.faq is one that shows up frequently and has good info on jumpering the factory external regulator when converting to the internal.
