Still gotta get that off the trail and onto the trailer. ;)

I'd prefer a trailer myself, but I have few qualms about flat towing. These Jeeps flat tow very nicely with minimal fuss.

Cheaper option when compared to a trailer. Though trailer brakes are a definite advantage.

Guess I'm saying I can see both sides of the issue and I don't think either one is "right" it's just what works and what you have room for (tow bars take up a lot less space than a trailer). ;)

that was a friend of the guy working the winch cable....who belongs to an other board i'm on...who joined us out for a weekend of wheel'n 2 years ago.......it was quite the feat of engineering to get him out of the ditch he was in when the knuckle busted off.....all that held the wheel on was the brake line.

we had winch lines and snatch blocks 15ft up in trees to get the right angle of pull on that rig....

it was a fine mess :)

Ok, I have to ask THIS one, as I've never seen it suggested here or anywhere else. A mechanic friend of mine recently rebuilt my D20 transfer case in my 74 CJ with Tera Low gears...LOVE IT. I asked him about flat towing. He is a LONG time jeep guy...most people in the area go to him for their jeep work. Firstly, he agrees with you-all that the BEST thing is a trailer, and in lieu of that, disconnect the driveshaft. BUT....if you're not going too far, this is what he told me. Transfer case in neutral, tranny in PARK (mine's an automatic), but get this.....LOCK the front hubs. Since he'd just rebuilt my TC, he said the front driveshaft rotating would lubricate something (he explained what it was...I just don't remember) in the top of the TC that would otherwise rotate DRY. I followed these instructions and towed it 200 miles home, and then 200 miles back to the river a few weeks later. No problem (that I'm aware of). Has anyone else heard of this???
