Do you have a "bouncing" speedometer?

If so, I stumbled on a quick fix.

This has been bugging me for the last few years. Any speeds less than about 60, the pointer was all over the dial. After ruling out the cable and the speedometer itself, I started thinking it was the unit in which the cable screws into the transmission. After calling all over creation to replace that part, I gave up. I never even could figure out a way to remove it !!

Anyway, while tinker'n on the jeep today, I loosened the cable from the transmission mount and then just barely threaded it on, leaving it fairly loose. Voila !!!! no more bouncing !!

I figure it was somehow binding with it being so tight. Solution is to use washers to keep the core of the cable from bottoming out in the mount. Hope this helps someone. It made my day !!

    Really!

    I'll have to try that.

Maybe you could just grind the end of the cable a little?

Don't know if mine bounces or not - I'm usually bouncing around pretty good myself, and too busy to look at the speedometer anyway!R):hurrican::coffee:

Grinding a little length off the tail end can definitely cure this IF the inner cable is too long.

"Bouncing" can also happen from lack of lube, or if the inner is worn/frayed/binding.

    Great solution!
Sometimes grunge accumulates at the speedo head affecting the mechanism. Sometimes carefully cleaning the mechanism can fix it also. Nickmil
