removing Cylinder Lock

Having issues removing the Ignition Cylinder Lock from my Steering column. I've gotten the Entire column torn down to the Section of the Steering column that houses the cylinder lock. I pulled/broke the ears off the Cylinder lock that you put the key between and turn the ignition lock with. So now I have nothing to pull the cylinder out with. Guess I'll have to knock it out from the inside.

Yes I am pushing the tab with a thin screw driver to release the lock from the housing, but the cylinder only comes out about 1/8" and stops. Am I missing something? Or could it be 30 years of crap built up between the cylinder and housing. I PB'd it last night in hopes of loosening it up. Gonna try again tonight. Any suggestions?

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

did you remove the horn contact ?
2 prong copper contacts attached to a plastic sleeve
you pull it out with needle nose; don't let the spring drop into the column

um... not that I'm aware of.. maybe that's my issue. and no worries on dropping spring in column, I've got it out of CJ, and stripped down to just the section of column that hold the Ignition lock.

thanks for the tip, I'll check it tonight.

here's a little pic of the area
    it's the 2 parts labeled 3-140-1 and 3.140-2
the spring is slid onto the outside of the plastic part

It's over on the side isn't it? as you turn the Key, part # 3.140-1 pops up. I was looking at those wondering if they were the culprit to my issue.

in the center, to the right of the steering shaft
they may be called the key buzzer/chime alert instead of horn

you can see the square hole in the pic where the items I'm talking about would go; the column pictured is not using them; they must be for the key alarm/buzzer, not the horn then.

Ends up I did have everything dissasemlbed, but Found one variance in directions that I read somewhere else. Key in Locked position and slide out, vs, Key in Run position and slide out. It comes out in Run position. Add to that, I still had to tap it out with a punch since it was cruded up with 30 years of junk. But I got it out none the less.

should come out with no key
I remove them with no key to read the code stamped on the cylinder to make keys when keys are lost.
    oh well, it's out.

maybe it would've, either way, I think it just needed some persuasion. ;)

and now the new cylinder is in, things are greased and going back together. Hope I recall how to get ALL the parts back in the Steering Column..
