225 v6 oddfire, I put in brand new HEI. It is lined up on #1 @ tdc, order 165432. I had it out of sync and it was chitty chitty bang bang. I moved my wires up one and now it starts and purrs. here is the prob......I have no spark on #6 and #4. I pulled and cleaned the brand new autolite platinums and switched the wires to be sure they werent the problem. I guess i could switch plugs around and see if the problem follows? Any clues?? Thnx

What I suggest is to read up on the conversion. Two very good articles here.http://www.earlycj5.com/tech/engines/225/225Links.php The oddfire HEI cap has different sized tangs internally (it's basically an 8 cyl cap modified for six). To get optimum performance you need to have the right ones where they belong (see even/odd spotter's guide). It will run almost fine as long as primary and secondary circuits are made but to get the most out of it the cap needs to be oriented properly.:v6:

I have read them over and over. I think I have a pretty good understanding but perhaps im still missing something, but shouldnt I get spark even if its in the wrong time? I had it on the wrong circuit and it barely ran. I switched it up one and I think it is just where it should be. yet no spark on 4 and 6...ever. I will read them again and pull the whole thing today and start from tdc I guess

If it's not sparking on 4 and 6 I don't think pulling it will solve your problem. Have you switched plugs and wires around?

    New cap, no cracks, etc?

Wait, you moved the wires one terminal? On an odd-fire you need to move them two terminals. Still you should be getting spark on all cylinders but it shouldn't run right the way you've described it.

I moved the wires one over because it was on the wrong circuit ( i think because it ran but crappy and missing and popping carb and pipes) The whole distributer is new cap rotor plugs wires everything. I havent taken it out yet because I think even 180 out or any other way it should still spark all six holes?? they may be out of time but shouldnt they still spark?? I would like to push this jeep off a cliff today......I think I will go take out my frustrations on my wife (wouldnt dare talk bad to my cj :)

    Wrong circuit?

As I noted, with an odd-fire if you move plug wires you need to move them two wires (unless you were off to begin with rather than just timing but on the wrong terminals).

Yes, you should have spark on all six cylinders. The distributor doesn't care where the wires go, it just makes spark.

180* wouldn't mean much in this case at all. And in that case the passenger side will run cold.

Oh boy....Im a fool. have been fooling with it all day and finally thought "why are the leads from the dist. to the cap so long." The dist has two notches where the cap can sit. I had the cap moved to where the leads were right over the leads on the dist. moved the cap clockwise to second notch and pow. I still dont understand why all six wouldnt show spark but who cares she is running well now. thank God!
