Can anyone tell me what the difference is in a 3a motor and a M38? I found a couple flatheads I'm going to look at them tomorrow and there is one of each.
    Thanks

M38 will be 24 volt and have all waterproof distributor and a slightly diferent intake manifold and carb.
3A motor will be 6 volt and most likely have a Fram body oil filter at the passanger side front of the block.
Pics would help to tell you the difference.

Thanks for the reply. I'll get some pics when I go up there in the morning. I was wondering if there was anything that made one more desirable than the other.

best way to tell is an m38 motor will say MC or RMC ###### on the flat spot between the water pump and the head. As M38 will have a double grove pully on the water pump and crank.

Well I brought home the 2 L heads today. The M38 motor looks great and the 3a motor doesn't look bad. It still has the trans and transfercase attached along with xmember and skidplate. So hopefully I will have a th350 and AA adapter for the D18 for sale soon. Going to go back to original on the 2a.

I can't read the numbers behind the waterpump. The only numbers I can find are SD 908-56 11A on the lower right side. And 11A 2D on the left. There is also a tag on the lower rear left side that has 4 1B F on it. Unfortunately it has been converted to 12v.
