im just wondering. mine seams to whine as much maby more than my t90. it whines especially at higher speeds when you let off the gas. is this pretty usual? or are the bearings and everything just getting old?

The Dana 18 is loud, since the intermediate gear is spinning all the time to power the rear axle. The 20 was called the 'silent' transfer case for this reason.

Tim is right about the dana 18 case. If the t14 is whining it is usually a high pitched howl that is more present in 2nd gear than anywhere. That is a sign of the bearings being worn.
