My jeep has a glass body and one piece tilt nose. Whoever installed it (P.O.), just put it on and primed and painted it, without sanding or other prepwork. These bodies are usually a little "ripply", and mine is no exception. To make things worse, it's painted black. I would like to improve this.
So... what's the best way to do this? Block sand it, until smooth, or use a filler primer first, then sand smooth? What do you think....? Thanks, Rich.

Good idea. It really depends on the depth of the rippling. If you're talking about seeing fiber impressions then you'll need more than filler primer. I've only built boxes w/ fiberglass, never really tried to get a flat finish, so the above idea (corvette guys) is a winner. I do think there's shapable fiberglass filler and stuff so it'll be similar to smoothing a metal body and being a jeep you can use long boards and really get it flat. I'm painting mine black also and am in the same process w/ steel right now. Good luck w/ yours.:v6:

I think block sanding would do the trick. The gel coat is fairly think on my glass body and I wish we would have sanded more prior to paint. You can always add some resin if you go too deep. I did a final coat of resin on my wheel well notches and it was smooth without any sanding. To my surprise you can get the fiberglass resin kits at autoparts stores as well as Menards.

    Good luck
