I have seen the links people have showing different companies that make Hardtops, but most all seem to be old and no in business anymore. Is there someone or a company who still makes Hardtops for CJ's? I saw the Kelly and Meyer, but when I look for them online, can't find them. Running out of time with winter closing in. Someone feed me some info please of actual companies that make or someone that has.

I found a company a coupe of years ago that was making them. They were good looking tops too. I can remember the name though. I'll see id I can find it.

If I understand correctly you can change your windshield frame to a 76 and later and use the 76 and later hardtop. Has anyone had any experience with this ?

No experience with it, but it's true. After '75, the windshield tapers toward the top and tilts back more, the hold-downs are different, and the wiper motor is on the inside. The perimeter of the tub does not change.

The windshields and tops are described on the tech pages.

Would Hardtops for a different year than 73 be easier to find? Winter in WA is coming soon, and still just a bikini top is all I have.

This place http://www.fleetair.com/Jeep.htm Used to make them a couple of years ago....I emailed last year and was told that they had been discontinued. If there were several of us interested, we may be able to persuade them to make a special run. I'm sure they still have the molds.
CJ-5s are still listed on their website.

From what I have seen by browsing Fleabay and other classifieds, it seems there are a lot more hardtops for older CJ's around than for 76+. I have one for a 76+ in my garage that I'm restoring and I'm hoping its relative rarity will make it worth my time to restore and sell, but we'll see. I see pre-76 hardtops for sale quite often actually, almost always steel Meyers or Konig or Sears, etc.

There's one each of early and late on the Boston Craigslist.
    http://boston.craigslist.org/sob/pts/391035296.html
I'd guess the black one is for an early CJ, from the angle of the door.

These are fiberglass, and much less common than the steel cabs. The most common are the steel Meyer cabs for '75 and older CJ-5, from what I've seen advertised. I'd guess the steel cabs for '76 and newer are pretty scarce, since I've only seen one of them advertised. Don't know how scarce the 'glass cabs are for later CJs, but here's one of them.

There's a couple of us active members in the area if you want to try and work something out with the owner.

<edit> Just a comment - the 'glass cabs seem to be pretty scarce, but shipping just about anywhere would be a pain because you can't disassemble them. Also, $300 isn't cheap... ok if you're in the area, and since the 'glass cabs are scarce, but not otherwise. If it were half-cab, I'd buy it on spec, but not a full cab.

as you ponder the idea of saddling your CJ with a hardtop, I am in the process of cutting off and replacing all of the body mount points on the $ sink's tub because they're all crushed and torn from the tub from carrying a kelly full top around for years. the metal tops add alot of weight to your jeep and the tub mounts will take a pounding from them. $.02

No spec about what years they fit, but I'd guess they are for '76 and later.

If they are really in production, $2290 ain't cheap. and you'd have to change your windshield on a '75 or earlier unless they make a top specifically for those years.

I guess in Texas hard tops aren't as sought after but I roast if the soft top is up with the windows in. Would a new soft top and a heater do it? We see hard tops frequently here on craigslist.

I just pick up 2 Hartops for my 72 this weekend. One is a Myers and the other a Kelly. I drove 12 hours on Saturday to pick these up in two differnt locations. Both have full hard doors. They are both steel tops. The Myers is in bad shape but the doors are good. the Kelly is in great shape for it's age. even though the Myers is in my mind a better looking top, I am going to restore the Kelly first since winter is already here. The myers may be for sale. Let me know if you are interested.
