CJ6 frame questions

Does the CJ6 frame have a reinforcement plate fitted under the frame rails? I believe it does after seeing a photo of part of the SSDutch frame. BUT, does the doubler plate run forward and aft under and beyond the spring hangers? If so, then I probably have a CJ6 frame that's been shortened to a CJ5 length. (The frame number is 14523 which I think would make it a '58 model (if it is a cut-down CJ6).

Marisco, Just went out and looked at my cj6 frame and the strap does run all the way along the frame under spring mounts and about 10" beyond the spring mounts on both ends. Sounds like a chopped cj6 frame to me.

 

Thanks very much indeed for taking time to measure your frame. The straps on mine also run 10" beyond the spring hangers so I've definitely got a chopper! Not to worry, the welding looks good enough

By the way, what's your serial number on the '57 CJ6?

 

Just checked, my # on the frame is #15328 on my '57. So you have a stubby cj6?R)

 

Thanks for the info. I suppose that my 'stubby' might also be a '57/'58 model being close to the same number as yours...........
