In the absence of a proper VIN number am I correct in thinking that my frame number 14523 is 1955 model CJ5 ? I have studied the VIN pdf document in the 'VIN Project' but may be missing something (often do). I'd be pleased to know if I do have number 4,522 of the first production year. It would be quite a piece of history with over 600,000 units built.............or maybe not ??? All comments and encouragement appreciated !!

Are your front spring shackles on the front or rear of the spring?

Mark, front shackles are in front. Frame had 'V' brace for rear hitch (underseat tank configuration). However please see my new thread 'Photo of frame butt-joint.'

Probably not a first year CJ5 as the earliest ones came with a factory "shackle reversal" with the front shackles to the rear of the spring pack.
