For the price of a Tera low kit, you could put in a T-18 and end up ahead.

No one makes a spool for the 27. Welding is the only way it can be done without expensive custom parts.
Do a search for T-18 transmission conversion. It's been covered exhaustively;)

I have a dana 27 front differential - it is welded solid. Yes, it is difficult to turn, but the added traction more than makes up for the occasional 3, 4 or 10 point turn. I was running 36" Super Swamper TSL's and am now running 33 x 13.50 r 15 bias ply Baja Claws. So far, no breakage........

I have the tera low in my dana 20, and the difference was night and day. 2nd gear is jsut a tiny bit lower than first was with the standard d20. And first gear is a nice creeper. I needed the d20 rebuild anyway, so i had then throw in the tera low while it was apart. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade. A t18 will yeild similar results, but you then have to gets your driveshafts cut and extended/shrotened and there is alot more work with adapters and such. The teralow is more or less a bolt on upgrade.

    thats just my $0.02

A Ford T18 with the 4.56 gears will get you to almost 72:1 in 1st gear. With 5.38's you'll make it into the 90's.

all sounds good, but what do you guys think is the best bang for the buck the t-18 with all thats needed or the tera-low kit and some 4.56 gears? Are there any mods to the case to allow the tera-low kit in a d18?

T-18 would definitely be more bang for the buck; 2nd best mod I've done to date. Even if you found a kit, going from 2.46 to 3.15 is not going to be nearly as much an improvment as going from 2.03 to 3.15 like in th D20. Use the search and do some reading; ECJ5 trans swaps of many flavors have been beat to death on this site.

When I was looking into putting a T18 in my 3b years ago while swapping in a :v6:I talked to old man Novak and he convinced me to go with a t18. He said it would be the best mod I could make for a Jeep, and he was right! I love it! Now I would go with the t18, and the tera low kit.;)
