I am restoring a 76 cj5 w/ 258. I have replaced cap, rotor, points and condensor, plugs, wires, spark plugs, vaccuum advance, and retimed, and a slew of the easy fixes. Now it runs a lot better -smoother idle, better accelleration, ect. but now it gurgles and backfires while decelerating and coasting downhill in 1st gear and it is not starting quite as fast as before. Does this usually mean that it is running rich?

I also want to add a roll cage tube to the back of the jeep, does anyone know if there is a bolt on kit or do I have to have someone weld it up?
    Thanks, chris

Check your plugs after a good drive. There are lots of plug-reading charts on the net... I think the best one is a scan of an NGK publication. Rich condition will be obvious from the plugs.
