Front Lift Shackles?

Years ago, I installed 6.5" rear shackles on my 79 CJ5 to give about a 1.5" lift. Ever since then, the Jeep has had a "raked" look, slanting slightly towards the front. The shop I bought those from has since gone out of business. Now I am looking for 6.5" front shackles to even out the lift. I ordered some from jeep4x4center.com but they are 1/2" narrower in the middle than stock. They barely clear the frame and leave no room for a bushing, just a thin metal washer! When I call around to local shops, everyone seems to carry the same size - they all measure 2.5 - 2.75" in the middle, but I need 3" of clearance. Does anyone know where I can find standard, non-greasable front shackles that measure 6.5" long (hole to hole) and 3" of clearance in the middle? Thanks.

Any local welding shop could easily make a set for you if you can't find exactly what you need. Keep in mind, this will change the caster on your front axle /knuckles, and will affect driveability... in the extreme you may experience poor return-to-center after corners, and possibly difficulty in controlling the vehicle over 40 mph.
If these occur, you could add steel shims to the front axle to restore the caster to spec. A better solution may be a suspension lift...

Yeah, I've been thinking... If all I wanted to do is lift the front end of my Jeep about 1.5 - 2" to level it out, would it be better/safer to just put a 2" lift block under my springs? I've never heard anything good about lift blocks, but it seems like people are always trying to put 4-6" blocks in. That sounds dangerous but is 1 or 2" ok? I don't want to pay $300 for a lift kit, and I don't want to put on these extended shackles if they are going to severely effect my driveablity/steering. Please advise, thanks!
