I remember a forum member mentioning that you could swap 19 spline shafts into a dana 41 by using a lock right 19 spline locker for a dana 44. What other parts are needed for the swap? Where is the best place to get 19 spline shafts, also do I need different bearings and seals for the axle? If any one has done this and have part numbers or sources pass them on! I am itching to beef up my rear axle a bit. The entire time I was at Tellico I listened for the sound of snapping, never happened but a little peice of mind next year would be nice.

Don't really know about your conversion, but if the 19 splined dana 44 parts fit, then couldn't you upgrade to the dana 44 30 spline shafts and the flanged ends like on a '72-'75 cj. Alloy USA has a ten year warranty on custom length alloy shafts. By upgrading to alloys and also flanged ends, your worrys would be over unless you started running 39's or bigger. I'm sure somebody here knows how easy it would be to do.

yes this can be done. The axle bearings and seals are the same. You just need 19 spline shafts and side gears. I'd get a matched set of spider and side gears if going used. I'd put an ad in the classifieds if you haven't already done it. Go with oem Spicer shafts and side gears. The aftermarket stock style are iffy at best. You can also put in a 19 spline Lock rite, Aussie locker, etc in the 41 case. I've done it, it works fine. Nickmil

This conversion is do-able but you have to have custom axle shafts made and the diff case must be changed also. 30 spline side gears won't fit in a 10 or 19 spline 41 or 44 diff case (sometimes mis-labeled as a carrier). 10 and 19 spline will interchange however. Nickmil

Just spoke to Paul at R&P and they have a pair of original 19 spline shafts for $75 each. He can be reached at 503-557-8911. You may want to put an ad in the classifieds and see if you can do better. Nickmil

Thats why these forums are great! Come home from a long day and find answers right at your fingertips. Thanks for the replies, I will give Paul a call and get those shafts coming. Just to confirm, they should hold up to 33"s and a Ford 2300 four banger right?

Holy friggin canoli! I am apparently cheap, or they are quite proud of thier shafts! I am sure hey are worth it however, though I have gone in a new direction (I am aparently ADD with Jeeps) as I just picked up an NP 435 from ebay and am going the simpler route of an adapter followed by dana 30/44 out of a narrow trac 70's Jeep. I hate to go to the dana 20 over the Dana 18 but I would love stout axles (centered diff) and the ability to drive it down the road at a decent speed and can now make up for it with the 6.68 to one first gear.
If anyone needs a good t-90 / Dana 18 /Dana 25 with 27 axles and a matching dana 41 let me know if you are in the FL area. Even better if you have a line on the said 30/44 combo. Once agian these forums are invaluable as a reference for all things Jeep.
