fan upgrade complete

    Finally installed an electric fan. I got the flexalite model 116 16 inch trimline, with the adjustable thermostat on/off switch. Fits perfectly on the radiator itself stock radiator too 1960 cj5. Two modifications that I had to do were move the front grill as far forward as possible by redrilling the bottom mount hole pulling bottom forward and rebolt with one rubber bushing. The top support rods on mine are adjustable so I readjusted to make the grill plumb again. Then I raised the radiator up one inch by redrilling new holes on the radiator support brackets. The hood shuts no problems does not hit rad cap. NOw I have almost an inch clearance between fan motor and water pump pulley. The fan works like a charm I have it set to come on at 180 deg I will experiment with even lower temps too and also add a toggle switch later so I can turn it off in deep water. Just a note on moving the grill forward/ im only talking about a half inch I loosened the front fender bolts slightly and this allowed me to come forward a little bit without any problems with alignment with the hood. However I believe that raising the radiator was all I needed to do. Hope this helps anyone with a hot 225 .

    Your electric fan should come on at a higher temperature. Lets say that, if you have a 195 degree thermostate and your electric fan comes on at 180 degrees. The thermostate will not open. The thermostate is there to help the motor reach normal operating temperature. You want the motor to run some where between 180-220 degrees. Most aftermarket switches don't allow for this. I used a single wire thermal switch out of a 87' Chevy Cavalier with the 4 cylinder. This has the fans come on at 210 degrees and shut off at 195 degrees. (I have a 195 degree thermostate BTY) The best part about this switch is that is screws into the intake. Gives it a stock factory look. If you use this kind of switch you will need to get a factory AC Delco wire connector to connect the wire. You will not be able to connect a wire to it without this. I've been runnung this set up for a few years now. I'm running two 12" electric puller fans in place of the one on the pump. I ran it all day yeaterday when I went 4 wheel'in. I only heard the fans come on twice that day.

    ok actually I can set it at a higher temp the only thing is I dont know what temp thermostat im running ive never opened it up to have alook. What thermostat are you running???? I think what ill do is keep the fan off run the engine with the rad cap off and see what temp i get circulation then adjust the fan acordingly.

    I'm not sure what thermostate the 225:v6: is suppose to run. My Chevy V-6 runs a 195 degree thermostate.

    just got done heres what I found , Water starts to circulate at 160* so that said its a 160 deg thermostat right? Now with the fan set at 190 , temp at the manifold (where the sensor is for the gauge) got up to 210* started lowering fan setting a little at a time, brought the fan down to come on at 160 goes off at 155 and the engine temp remained constant at 190*. Im using a meat thermometer in the radiator to measure temp for the fan and my SW gauge inside the cab for the engine temp. Water still circulates with this combination what do you think ???
