my jeep has a d30 front with discs from a later CJ, the brake is seized and after a 10 min drive it will smoke. my brakes need to be bleed and it takes a few pumps to get any stopping power. once i re bleed them will this go away? or is there somthing with the piston?

Caliper is most likely seized. The fix is to replace the caliper, they aren't worth trying to rebuild IMHO.

:iagree: Most likely the dust boot is cracked and allowed moisture and road grime into the piston causing corrosion and binding up. Once it happens it'll happen again even if you rebuild it so get another.:v6:

They are cheap we just replaced the set on my buddy's 82 they were 24.00 at Napa.
All the FLAPS should have them as long the dink behind the counter can find em :)

Just to throw a fly in the ointment. Are you using any sort of proportioning valve? I had a friend who did this conversion on his 72'. After driving about 10 minutes both front discs locked up. After he added an adjustable proportionong valve the problem went away. Just my $.02

    Oh and by the way,

Lots of great info here. I did this swap and used the frame mounted MC. I couldn't get mine to stop for anything. I read this thread and did the swap on the brake lines at the MC and it will throw me through the windshield if I am not careful.

Worth reading, and full of info since everybody sorta chipped in.

Did you run the brake lines as suggested. Back line to front brakes etc.... This made all of the difference in the world on my disc conversion. Prior to swapping the brake lines I could barely get it to stop, after the brake line swap it will stop on a dime.
