Popping and backfiring

    Will bad points cause popping and backfiring? Plugs are ok, fresh gas, carb set right.

    Yes. The points burned or out of adjustment can. Dwell angle will also effect ignition timing. Nickmil

    dohc281 It is what it is.

    I had the same problem with my Jeep when I first got it and it was the dwell. Set it properly and the problem went away.:)
