Does anyone know where you can buy a locking gas cap for the large necked gas tank like the ones found in the M38A1s

No one makes one. You'll be luck if you find a replacement cap for that. :(

Try Peter DeBella, ( http://www.debellajeepparts.com/ ) he carries lots of military Jeep stuff, and might have n.o.s. M38A1 caps. Works better if you call him rather than email. There's lots of other military Jeep parts places out there.

Here is how they do it on Land Rovers, which have a big gas cap. You might be able to adapt. It is basically a hasp that affixes to the body that you put a padlock through. I had one on a Series IIA once and it looked kind of cool. :)

X2. We used to do this on our M151A2s all the time, circa 1982-86. 4 padlocks all keyed alike used to secure the steering wheel, gas cap, and both radio racks. ;)
