I had a cracked timing chain cover and replaced it with a new cover that had ben machined incorectly. I could not get the distributor to go in without tapping it in with a soft brass puntch. Cranked over the engin and bent the distributor shaft. Its a lot longer of story but I was blessed with a new hei distributor that will not fire at low rpms due to bad toerances betwenen the main shaft star tabs and the pick up coil. Well thats a whole differnt story. The reason I am mentioning this is that others may have had this problem or may have this problem. I just recently purchased a new new timing chain cover and installed it and the distributor just drops in. The problem the timing chain cover is the machine work, the distributor does not line up correctly with the cam gear or the oil pump. Just a heads up that there are some bad timing chain covers out there. Im still trying to get the distributor right and I think there could be some bad distributor shafts out there. Any one having these problems I may be able to help.
