I have about finished the engine swap on my 1970 CJ6.
It came with a 4 cyl and 5.38 gears

I have put in a Buick 350, with a 350 auto trans, D20 transfer case.
Changed the front and rear axles to 3.37

This project took over 7 months to get it in driving.

Will be posting pictures later of this swap.
and a list of the items that were used.

It was a lot of work but fun.

I guess that allows for better highway driving, more power and higher gears. I can't wait to see a finished product.

Yes it did help with highway speed. The F head just did not have it for highway travel, It was great off road.
No wheely bars yet, maybe a longer stinger for the reciever hitch.

This is a picture when I brought it home.

Do not have a lot of pictures of the swap as the camera craped out.
Here are a couple after the swap but before the paint work.

Did you cut away the front radiator crossmember? I just see tie rod below your fan.

What fan are you running? I tried to bolt my fan straight onto the water pump pulley like yours (without the spacer), but it rubs the lower damper pulley. Tried it with two different fans, same thing.

Are those support rods that attach your grille to the firewall from the '70 or from a later AMC?

    I remove the front crossmember.
Used a crossmember from a mid 70's CJ so I could put power steering. I first mounted it just like the 75 but then ran into problems with the power steering. The pitman arm was hitting the tie rod.
Fixed this by moving it foward about 2" and the used a flat plate to connect the grill to the crossmember.
Use a grill from the same mid 70's CJ so the rad would be as far foward as possible. The rad is a conversion rad for a GM engine in a CJ. I could not find any hoses that would fit so I used ones from a FSJ with Buick 350 and cut them in the middle and used a splice with barbs on it.
As for the belts and pulley are from differant engines.
The water pump is from a FSJ (1969 J3000)as it has the short shaft, the water pump pulley is from a 72 Jeep 304 Comando.
The alanator bracket is from a early Buick V6 engine and so is the power steering pump. the hoses are from a 1976 CJ5 with V8
The fan is from a mid 60' s Dodge pickup with a V8. Got from UPULL IT, I wanted something that would not flex. Most of the aftermarket are flex fans. Had to drill out the 4 mounting holes to fit the water pump. It is about 18" with a draft of about 2"
    Can get picture from underside.
The support rods are the ones that came on the 70 from the factory, did have to bend one to fit around the power brake booster.
Can get picture of anything you want to look at.

Thank-you so much. I'm trying like heck to keep the radiator crossmember. Gotta visit the U-pullit again tomorrow, gonna see if I can get a fan to fit in place. This isn't going quite as easy as I thought it would, but I am oh-so-close right now. Seeing your pics has got me re-motivated.

I spent a half a day at Upul it looking for a fan.
Knew I wanted one about 18" and center hole to match the 350 water pump.
Started looking at all cars and trucks but all had fan clutchs on them so started looking at the older stuff.

Went back and looked at my build notes.
I used a water pump pulley from a AMC V8 engine. Iy is about 2 1/4" thick and the one on a Buick V8 is about 1 3/4" thick.

I took a 1975 Buick long water pump and pressed the drive flange down till the belt groves lined up with the crank pulley.
In this picture you cane see that the pulley is thicker that the 225 one.

So if you use the short pulley you will need to use a 1/2" spacer for the fan so it will not hit the crank pulley.
