Mine don't, they are fully adjustable. I have one of these from Harbor freight, had it about a year now. Works great, we have been using 2 of these at work for the last 3 years.

I have enough trouble seeing what I am welding with out flipping my head all around to get the mask to drop down. Auto-darkening all the way!:hurrican:

I have no trouble seeing, what is amazing is how fast it changes from almost clear to dark and back, I also think I can see better while welding.

I'll second McRuff on the HF mask. Mine's been great. I agonized a long time about it vs a Lincoln or a more expensive unit, but when I finally pulled the trigger on the HF I was very happy.

I've got one of those HF hoods too, still in the box. Haven't tried it yet.

I have a HF autodarkening mask but when welding anything heavier than 10 gauge metal at higher voltages, i have trouble following the line i'm trying to weld. so for heavier metals i use a regular mask. But for ligher metals or when spot welding, i use the autodarking mask. but it sounds like i'm the exception to the rule here. but i would recommend having the auto darkinging helmet as well as a standard helmet.

due to a current lack of garage, I am doing all of my welding outside. it is a PITA to see what I am doing as the light conditions change throughout the day. hoping that being able to free my "flip-the-hood-up-hand" and focus on where I'm welding will scare off the gorilla who keeps dumping on my welds:rofl:

I picked up a Jackson (I'll have to check what model I have) auto-darkening from a pawn shop for $119.00. Love the instant darken-lighten of my helmet. I'll never buy another flip-down helmet again.
