I'm in the middle of working on mine.
What do you mean by release cable?

I'm putting in a new pedal mechanism & connector cables from the pedal to the rear wheels.

On mine there is a single cable that goes from the pedal to the "equalizer bar" underneath the body about half way back. Then from the equalizer bar there are two cables, one for each wheel that go back to the rear wheels.

I bought my new equipment from www.4wd.com

i've already replaced the three new cables like you mentioned.

what i need is the cable that releases the pedal after you have depressed it.

it is maybe 6 inches long. and has the little black plastic handle that says brake release

    ooh.
    I got ya.
    You need the release lever.

You know I just bought a whole new pedal assembly and wish I hadn't.

I spend a few days in the junk yard last week and saw lots of them on Jeeps and other cars. They haven't changed that thing in years.

That would be my recommendation, get it from a yard. An assembly from any jeep should work.
You could get it for even cheaper at a u-pull-it.

Just pick a big yard out of the phone book, call them and ask if they have an e-brake pedal assembly from a jeep. If not, ask them who does, they'll know. Just work down the line until you get one.
