I'm building my own "H" shackles for my cj5. Anyone have a set on their jeep, whether they made them or bought them from an aftermarket supplier?

What I need is the width between the 2 uprights on the shackle - measured inside edge to inside edge. if someone could measure with a pair of calipers that would be most accurate.

I know what I need based on the measurements I took on my frame and my springs, but because the "H" shackle cannot be put on a side at a time and compress the bushings as the stock shackle setup does, I think I would have to space the uprights a bit further apart so that they can slide over the bushings.

i hope i explained this clearly :) Thanks.

    Linc, mine are Con-Ferr
1-7/8" inside diameter, between the upright plates
used tape measure, all I have

Jim's measurement sounds right... consider the 1 3/4" spring, then a sixteenth on either side of that... I'm sure my ConFerrs are the same.

Linc, post some pics of the units you build when you have them completed!

    Mine go like this 3/8 x 1-1/2 steel 5 in. long w/ holes centerd @ 3-1/4 apart
obviously not squared up and welded Doug/Tucson slightly distorted by camera
buy new bushings, and they will give you the distance apart. Mine are 1-7/8 inside

Sounds correct as I measured mine with calipers for this thread:

    http://www.earlycj5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26388

I measured 1.87" where the cross brace is welded to the uprights.

Keep in mind you want the shackle to be just snug when tightened down. You had originally mentioned building them a bit loose which could make the axle tend to shift around a bit.

exactly, thats why i needed the measurements of exisiting setups. i wanted to be sure my setup wasn't too tight, or too loose on the bushings.
