E-brake cables

I've installed new e-brake cables for an intermediate jeep model on my '59 with a rear model 44 from a '72. It fits fine into the backing plate, but there is no provision on the end of the cable for an e-clip to hold the outer sheath still while the inner cable slides where it meets the single cable from the foot lever. Maybe some sort of u-shaped clip or bolt was used to hold it? Probebly did'nt explain it correctly, but hope you get the idea.
