Ok, I did the search thing, got about 50 threads, and didn't see any obvious pertinent information on the ones I read.

In the '61, whenever I get above ~6-8 mph, there is an awful squeal from underneath in 2wd or 4hi. In 4lo, I can go through all three gears with no noise. I've drained the fluid multiple times, thinkin' it's water in the trans/transfer case, and it comes out fine. any advice is more than welcome, and please keep it simple. Chainsaws and trimmers I'm good at; the Jeep is just greek to me. Thanks for the patience..

if it has ever had water in either the transmission or trans fer case, long enough to damage a bearing thats the culprit, frome what you describe it sounds like an out put shaft bearing, most likely the rear out put bearing in the transfer,as it does it in 2 high and 4 high, when you go to low range you arent turning them as fast, unless you are getting up to the speed posted, and if so i am all out of ideas
