my 71 allready has a rear tank in it and i would like to put a front one in as well. what i want to do is run a T in the fuel line, so that it sucks from both tanks at the same time, would this work? or when one tank is depleted would it suck too much air? am i better off just using a T with a valve on each tank, when the rear tank runs out i just open the front one and close the rear/

The saddle tank would continuously try to drain into the rear tank. This would be especially problematic if the filler neck of the rear tank was below the full mark on the saddle. you can install a petcock(mine is out of an early Ford and is mounted on the floor between the seats) and a double pole switch on the dash to swap sending units, or find an electric switch out of a later model p'up which will do both under the body with a flick of a switch.

This is an idea my dad did back during the oil embargo of the early 70's. We had an F100 pickup with the tank behind the seat. He put in 2 VW tanks as saddle tanks on the frame rails, he mounted an electric fuel pump to pump the saddle tanks into the main tank that stopped him from having to have selectable fuel gauge and with a petcock on each tank he could select which tank to pump from.

I have a 70 with the tank in the rear. I put a tank under driver's seat, then instaled and electric valve. That way when I switch tanks my fuel gauge is working.

Marine selector valve between the seats; available at most surplus boating stores.

I used a 3 position switch and early bronco switch plate to show Aux. or Main tank.

you can install a second tank guage in your guage cluster in place of the temp guage.
