The drawbar was seriously bent down and the rear leaf springs had been broken and the 2 inch ball was directly attached to the drawbar. So I repair the drawbar by heating and straightening the the attaching vertical bars and welding a patch were the PO had torched out an opening for the trailer plug both rear springs were broken so the PO must've had way too much tongue weight and hit a serious pothole. I also have added the stock extension, purchased separately, but it also needs to be straightened slightly, but it is close enough for now

    Thanks,
I was surprised how well it came out myself.

Good job! I have a couple of those, if you need more practice! What's the little tubes on the corners for?

I don't know what the tubes on the ends are for. They came that way with the Jeep, since it is a 1955, and we have an air force base here in Tucson my only guess would be, They might be for flags for safety or a parade
maybe someone else might know what they are really for.
I may use it for a safety flag, because I would be the slowest vehicle on the trails out here in Tucson. sand rails can drive over the rocky trails Like they were paved, not to mention the quads and dirt bikes

Those tubes may have been for mounting something, like jerry cans, to the rear draw bar. There's a nice how-to article on doing just that with similarly placed tubes on the CJ-3A Page.

How it works is that a tube of slightly larger diameter is welded to a jerry can mount, and then that tube is slid over the smaller one welded to the draw bar. Holes are drilled horizontally through both tubes so that a removable pin can be slid through to hold it all in place. I thought it sounded like a great idea, but haven't tried it yet.:)
