Mike -what about an air brush? I'm not sure how much coverage you would need. Might work for just the underside of the cowl, though. I think there's also a tool sold by Eastwood that is kinda like a refillable rattle can - you add your own paint, and pressurize it with your compressor. That's on my list of things I'd like to have, but don't need right now. Try this link: http://eastwood.resultspage.com/search?p=Q&ts=custom&w=refillable+spray+can

Looks like you are doing a great job! I've enjoyed reading about your creative ideas for SS Dutch.

I tried a harbor freight version of one of those refillable rattle cans before...and it wouldn't atomize the paint well. That was like a $12 deal though.

I'd be curious to hear if this one works well with automotive paint.

Airbrush might work -- it's the spots between the edge of the body and tops of the wheelhousings, under the cowl, under the door edges etc that I can't get with my gun.

My FLAP sells a glass bottle and a sprayer that screw on top.
It works like a can of spray paint. You can get replacement sprayers for the top. I don't know the brand.

Are you kidding? Dutch people love things cheap and shiny. This is both! R)

So, does this mean your not going to make the paint "flat"? Or are you going full gloss?

That color will look great on your 6, it seems to be very similar to Animal and look how good it looks.

How is it that this paint is "cheap" vs. the TSC paint? Most automotive paint is much more $$ than the tractor paint.

I think that color would really stand out in gloss. Wouldn't be one of the common colors, red, blue, white, black....

Can't wait to see it done. :toetap:

    Yeah- full gloss.

And yes - it's more $$ than the TSC route - this color was $22 for a quart. I just figure overall if I use a gallon I'm still into the paint for less than $100 more than the TSC paint - not enough to get verklempt over...;) It's still cheap in that I'm doing all the labor.

But OTOH it means I'm using the $100 HVLP gun that I already had....so that makes up for it, kinda (aint justification great?)

I joke about being Dutch alot...but in this case the wallet didn't win. I just plain wanted a more fun/distinctive color than what I could get at TSC. I plan to own this 6 a looooooong time and want to be proud of it.

Like I said to MsBoyink last night....for all the $$ I'm putting into it it might as well be gold....R)

Keep in mind at this point I'm only painting the interior. Plan is to do that, touch up the white exterior and get it driveable, then start working on getting the FI put on.

But...I wouldn't be surprised if once I get the interior done I'll want to get the exterior matching. And frankly it'd be *such* an easier job to prep and paint compared to what I've gone through for the interior.

I musta missed something, I thought you were painting the whole thing!

You were thinking of it. We all saw the photochopped colors. WE VOTED!

The white on your 6 still makes it a stand-out. I've always liked the pics of it in the dunes.

Still would like to see it full tilt GOLD!

    I'll wait...;)

You might have voted, but it wasn't a poll...R) I will paint the whole thing -- just not right now. Color had to be decided though...;)

White stands out well in the sand...but here in MI people pretty much assume a white CJ is an unpainted 'glass body - there tends to be alot of that.

    :)

Since I'm still new to this gun I was scared to shoot the metallic gold yet, so used some of the white I had and painted places that won't get seen. Figured under the dash and under the floor white would be nice for visibility anyway.

Good thing too - I had lots of runs...shooting color is way different than primer.

Actually the Gold will cover easier over the white base with less paint. Often, a white base may "brighten" the effect of the final color 8)

I ain't painting over the white...;) Figured more visibility under the Jeep and behind the dash was a good thing. Saves me some gold too - only bought a quart and hoping it's enough...

I've never painted a Jeep so idunno. Shootin' from the hip I would say 2 Qts. A pro could prolly do it in 1 qt. Its all in the technique. You can always buy more ;)
