Just took the Jeep for the first drive today after replacing the motor and clutch. I had a heck of a time adjusting the clutch but things worked out after I found out I had the bell crank backwards. The Jeep shift fine into and from 1st and reverse, it also shifts fine into 2nd and starts from 2nd when the Jeep is at a stand still. When I am on the road and I attempt to shift into 2nd though, it just grinds (Sort of like the clutch isn't released although it drops out of 1st easily) Didn't even try third. 1) Is it possible that my clutch is not engauging enought to allow a shift at speed? I used Valvoline semi-syn 80W-90 oil, my 75 TSM calls for 80W (Could this be it?) 3) The trans shifts without issue at rest. My synchros looked very good as did my gears. Thanks

was the unit shifting fine before the repairs were made ?
if so, then I would think the clutch linkage needs further adjusting
I don't think the oil would cause this problem

If you can run through the gears with no problems sitting still with the motor running, I would think the clutch adjustment is fine. If you experience grinding while rolling then I would suspect the synchronizer for the gear which is grinding.
